The Oracle Twitterverse is mildly abuzz (the blogosphere will eventually follow, I'm sure) with the general availability announcement for E-Business Suite Release 12.1. That's a nice start to your Monday morning if you were at the Collaborate '09 keynote. I wasn't, but Twitter got me the news anyway (thanks, Mohan!)
A quick MetalinkMy Oracle Support search on "Release 12.1" reveals a lot of documents that have been updated in the last few days. Of particular interest to me (and maybe to you, which is why I'm posting):
- Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1: Release Content Documents, a good list of "what's new" documentation for this release.
- Oracle Applications Documentation Resources, Release 12.1. As the name suggests, this is a very dense collection of links covering a lot of topics and products, and a good place to start reading when it's time to think about implementation.
- Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Maintenance Pack Installation Instructions. These are the platform-agnostic instructions; it will still be necessary to locate the release notes for your platform for additional instructions and platform-specific patches. Of note are the multiple required upgrades to the applications infrastructure: Database to 10.2.0.3, General-purpose Oracle App Server to 10.1.3.4, Forms and Reports Oracle App Server to 10.1.2.3, JDK to version 6.0, etc. I'm pretty sure these versions have been certified with earlier releases of R12 for a while, so you may already be compliant with these requirements if you've been keeping up.
- Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 12.1 with Oracle Database 10gR2 (10.2.0)
- Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS Release 12.1 with Oracle Database 11gR1 (11.1.0)
- Oracle Applications Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86
- Oracle Applications Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86-64
- E-Delivery also has Release 12.1 media available, if you're going to do a fresh deployment, or if you'd rather spend hours downloading media for a new Vision install rather than upgrading your current Release 12.0 Vision instance.
- Update: Steven Chan, in his post today about 12.1, promises a series of articles about new 12.1 tech stack components. Can't wait!
Now, where'd I put my upgrade boots?
